Tidal Basin Pleasant at Sane Speeds

Brent had a great post today where he revisited his 2005 goals to see how he was doing. The answer, better than me! After reading his goals I revisited my own. In the running/exercise realm I have only achieved a few of them. I backed off when I was injured this summer instead of exercising through injury. I do core exercises twice a week. But alas, I no longer lift twice a week (though I do swim now-can I swap goals?). I haven’t PR’d at a single distance. I still eat too much junk food (but honestly, I think that is going better.) Hmmm… perhaps the last quarter of 2005 will see at least 1 PR? One can only hope (and train :)

My run this morning was great. I need to clarify what I wrote earlier this week about running around the monuments being annoying due to all of the necessary stops. It CAN be a good experience if you pick the right route. For example, today I ran around the tidal basin which is partially shaded and about 3K. There are no stoplights or streets to cross! And it’s beautiful. The annoying part is running there from work, but, while not ideal, is not too big of a hindrance on life. Also, whenever I ran around the tidal basin in the past I was usually sprinting. It was much much much more enjoyable at the speed I was going at today.

My total run was 40 minutes. I felt great. The weather felt like spring. The sun was SHINING brightly off of the tidal basin. I had to put my visor on sideways to block the glare! I always start out at dawn, never bring sunglasses, and then regret it as it gets brighter. It’s kind of annoying that I always do that.

I momentarily considered swimming tonight b/c I am bored and all of my new housemates (undergrad friends) are moving in (and I am less and less belonging here) but I think I will scrap it and go to bed early. I haven’t been sleeping enough and it was hard to drag myself out of bed this morning. Ahhh…Bed….

And, while unconfirmed (I am too shy to ask for some reason) I am pretty sure at least one my parents has found my blog. To them I say, Happy Anniversary!!!!!!! 30 YEARS!! Wahoo!!! I know the best part of it all is the 4 wonderful kids, yes?

hey thanks for the shout-out! cool.
i can't imagine training and living through the injuries you've mentioned. it sounds just great that you are healthy this summer *knock on wood* and can at least do some things.

Wow, 30 years!?! That seems like forever. It always makes me smile whenever I hear that a couple has been together happily for that long. Tell them congrats for me!

That is very cool re: your parents! Happy anniversary to them :)

I do not know what a tidal basin is but it sounds cool. I am glad you're enjoying your last few days in DC, coeds notwithstanding.
